Working in Montauk
Montauk conditions are in a category of their own. Constant wind, driving salt spray and heavy seasonal use mean exterior carpentry has to be specified for the environment. We default to stainless fasteners, corrosion-resistant connectors and species or composites that handle exposure rather than whatever is standard.
Outdoor structures get the most attention. Decks, outdoor showers, screening, pergolas and railing systems all live outside year-round, and the details that matter are drainage, ventilation and keeping end grain sealed and off the ground.
Montauk also has a strong hospitality sector, and we do commercial build-out and millwork work here — bars, reception areas and display fittings — scheduled around the season so the work happens when the doors can afford to be closed.
